Introduction to Web Accessibility

Open to Princeton University Students, Faculty, and Staff

Web Accessibility is the practice of creating fair and inclusive experiences within Information Communication Technology (ICT) for people of all abilities. This four-hour session includes two hours with guests from the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired providing live demonstration and panel discussion.

This session will review the core concepts of web accessibility including:

  • An overview of web accessibility
  • Legal and regulatory landscape inside higher education
  • Introduction to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • The barriers to access faced by users with diverse abilities
  • Assistive technologies used to overcome barriers
  • Performing basic QA procedures on ICT
  • Basic understanding of remediation versus designing with accessibility in mind
